With an extensive portfolio of patents and pending patents, Superior dealers can leverage these unique features in their sales strategies to differentiate from the competition.

Superior Industries holds a variety of patents on its equipment and processes, including technology that monitors the performance of conveyor idlers or the design of our drive belt tensioning system for vibratory screens .

These patents offer a leg up on those in the market with competitive equipment offerings. A dealer’s starting point in leveraging the benefits is simply knowing they’re there.

“Patents give you a competitive advantage in many cases that other manufacturers cannot replicate,” says Matt Voigt, Superior's director of products. “Or, if a manufacturer does offer it, they’re either infringing or adding costs to accomplish what we’re doing.”

Several Superior patents are particularly noteworthy, according to Voigt. Here are six he thinks dealers should be especially aware of, as well as the key selling points:

1-Aggredry

Aggredry® Dewatering Washer

  • Discharges sand with the same moisture content as a cyclone system using 1/2 less horsepower.
  • With a dewatering screen fully integrated, the machine fits on the same footprint as a standard sand screw.
  • Material gets washed and dewatered to a moisture content as low as 8%, which means it's instantly saleable.
2-TSFD

TeleStacker® Conveyor Auto Level

  • The original FD Axle patent expired, but we've added new performance technology to stay ahead of competitors.
  • Working with the automation, FD Auto Level keeps the stacker level at grades up to 4%.
  • That means less site prep, straighter belts and less spillage with a consistently level truss.
3-HSI

Sentry® HSI Recirculating Conveyor

  • Returning material is fed to the HSI via a feed-centering recirculating conveyor, which extends wear life of the blow bars.
  • Designed into the Portable Sentry HSI Closed Circuit Plant.
  • The plant also allows operators to feed it from all three sides: driver, rear and ditch.
4-LWW

Alliance® Low Water Washer

  • Accepts a dry feed directly from the crushing circuit, eliminating the need for additional handling and processing.
  • Addresses growing demand for manufactured sand maximizing the value of crusher dust.
  • Available in standard (single dewatering screen) or extended (dual dewatering) depending on the desired spec.
5-Cradle

Conveyor Load Zone Impact Cradle

  • Curved design closes gaps between the belt and bed, providing additional belt support.
  • Individual urethane cartridges or pads easily slide on and off frame for quick replacement.
  • When shown at trade shows, it continues to generate lots of attention, proving it's addressing a common pain point.
6-Class

Aggrespec® Classifying Controls

  • Automatically adjusts classifying tank settings to optimize performance.
  • We use a percentage-based method rather than batching, delivering about 2% better accuracy for exacting sand specs.
  • Features like 'minimize fines or coarse modes' boost production, by delivering 15% more saleable product than competitors.

Superior’s patents offer dealers distinct advantages and Voigt encourages those representing the company to focus on the benefits of these features, their impact on total cost of ownership, and not the disadvantages of competitors.

“We always encourage focusing on Superior's ability to reduce cost per ton and not speak negatively of competitors,” he says. “It builds and maintains a positive reputation, but has also proven to build trust with producers."

Additionally, Voigt advises Superior dealers to speak up if they see infringements on the company’s intellectual property.

"Don’t hesitate to report any infringements if you notice a copy in the field," he advises. "Patents are an investment, and we have a full-time patent attorney dedicated to ensuring these innovations are protected."

It also safeguards the dealers’ competitive edge in the marketplace.
