The Challenge
RiverStone Group, operating multiple quarries, faced the challenge of minimizing recirculating loads in their cone crushing circuits to enhance productivity and reduce wear.
High recirculating loads led to inefficiencies, increased wear, and higher operational costs as saleable material was unnecessarily sent back to the crusher. At their Cleveland Quarry in Colona, Illinois, the company needed a solution to improve their plant's uptime, efficiency, and output.
““We’re getting maximum efficiency, and very little recirculating load, while averaging 80-percent of our crushed material going directly out to the finished, saleable product stockpile.”
The Solution
To address these challenges, RiverStone Group upgraded their plant by installing a new P600 Patriot® Cone Crusher from Superior Industries at the tertiary circuit. This new cone crusher was chosen for its durability, reliability, and advanced features, including a counterclockwise spinning counter-shaft that reduces the risk of catastrophic failure, and a unique tramp relief system that minimizes maintenance and prevents damage during tramp events.
The cone's robust design and integrated Vantage® Automation system further enhanced its performance, enabling real-time monitoring and adjustments to maximize efficiency.
The Results
The installation of the P600 Patriot Cone Crusher led to significant improvements at the Cleveland Quarry. RiverStone Group achieved nearly double their previous output, with the plant now running steadily at 800 tons per hour, compared to just over 400 tons per hour before the upgrade.
The new crusher's advanced technology and automation package resulted in an impressive 97-percent uptime, minimized recirculating loads, and maximized production of high-quality concrete stone and asphalt chips, delivering a rapid return on investment.
